What a guitar! This fine archtop was hand crafted by the luthiers at Gibson during the golden era of archtops! The guitar has a wonderful tone with a beautiful clarity and lots of volume and projection. The wide v shaped neck is exceedingly comfortable and has a roomy feel. The guitar has plenty of play wear, but has evidently been very well taken care of as there are no cracks or serious repairs at all! The guitar has been refretted and there is some chipping and fill in here and there on the fretboard from long ago. the frets are level with plenty of life left, and the guitar plays great. The tailpiece has been replaced long ago with an epiphone frequensator. There is a bit of fill in at the bottom edge of it and one mismatched screw. The bridge is original and bears the serial number on the bottom. The label is missing, but the FON “476” is present (see photos). The guitar plays well with medium action suitable for acoustic playing. The original bridge is lowered all the way, but the neck angle is healthy and the guitar could easily play with very very low action with a bridge that is not so tall. There is some finish scuffing around the f holes as seen in the photos and some honest wear throughout. Overall, this is a great playing and sounding guitar and a fine specimen, especially for a guitar that is nearly 100 years old. The finish is original and beautiful as are the tuners. Comes with non original hard case. Ships promptly, pro packed and fully insured.
